Description of Charity/Foundation:
InMotion Network is dedicated to promoting physical activity for girls and women in Alberta. Through our three program funding opportunities: Go Girl, Women in Motion and Girls in Motion, we support Alberta not-for-profits and charitable organizations to bring quality physical activity programming to women and girls. We also provide Take the Lead funding opportunities to assist Alberta girls and women to become leaders in coaching and officiating.

Description of Role:
Volunteer Treasurer is a member of the InMotion Board of Directors and is an officer of the Association. The treasurer is also a member of the Governance and Finance Committee. The association employs a bookkeeper who reports to the Executive Director. The Treasurer approves the twice-monthly cheque runs and signs cheques. Other approvals include quarterly bank reconciliations and results of annual audits. The Treasurer also reviews financial statements and reports at each Board meeting and ensures operational and capital budgets are prepared annually by the ED and approved by the Board. Attendance at bi-monthly Board meetings and committee meetings. Time Commitment 2-6 hours per month.

Certification or Education Required:
CPA designation recommended. Similar experience and education levels will be considered.

Volunteer Board Member / Treasurer for Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families

Description of Charity/Foundation:
Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families has been sharing knowledge and hope to families living with cerebral palsy and similar neuromotor disabilities in the Calgary area since 1951.
Our mission is to deliver valuable supports, resources and opportunities to families and individuals living with cerebral palsy and similar neuromotor disabilities throughout their life journey.
We offer a range of programs that create a positive and consistent support system for families, along with providing opportunities for kids to experience the simple joys of being a kid. These include our family support program, summer camps, baby therapy groups, counselling, family holiday events, and the largest adaptive bicycle program in the country
Our vision is to ensure individuals living with cerebral palsy and similar neuromotor disabilities experience an inclusive, abundant and happy life.

Description of Role:
Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Directors. We currently have 2-3 positions open, that we are looking to fill with the right people. Our Treasurer position will be opening in May/June. Our Board is predominantly a governance Board, but we do expect Board Members to be regularly engaged with our organization and committed to its success and sustainability.


• Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs
• Champion CPKF in the wider Calgary community, working to develop greater awareness of, and support for, our agency
• Sit on various Board committees as appropriate –e.g. special events, fundraising, governance, etc.
• Participate in special events throughout the year
• Attend Board meetings, which are held every third Thursday evening from September through June, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
• Time commitment is approximately 7-10 hours per month, inclusive of Board meetings

Treasurer Specific duties also include:
• Review financial statements and financial position, relative to budget
• Review and provide guidance on annaul budget
• Prepare and present Treasurer’s report for monthly board meetings, keeping board members abreast on current financial position and issues
• Ensure adequate financial controls and processes are in place
• Sit on and attend meetings for Audit Committee and Executive Committee


Certification or Education Required:
• For the Treasurer position, we require a CPA or CPA student
• Passionate about supporting individuals living with disabilities, particularly neuromotor
• Team player with strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Have strategic thinking skills, innovative and creative approaches to problem solving
• We are particularly interested in candidates who hold expertise in:
o social enterprise
o marketing and digital media
o fundraising (particularly corporate sponsorship and special events)
o governance (previous corporate or non-profit Board experience)
o government relations
o working with and supporting diverse communities

Volunteer External Director for Calgary West Central Primary Care Network

Description of Charity/Foundation:
Primary Care Networks were established to enhance the delivery of primary health services. The CWC PCN Board and Governance members are all family physicians and as such, ensure our programs and services in our member clinics are focused on excellence in patient care and that everyone in the southwest Calgary area has a Patient Medical Home.

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the Calgary West Central P.G. CO. (CWC P.G. CO.), a not-for-profit corporation comprised of community-based primary care providers. Through a joint venture with Alberta Health Services, the CWC P.G. CO. guides the Calgary West Central Primary Care Network in their mission to support physician members and their patients in the southwest of Calgary.

Description of Role:
EXTERNAL DIRECTOR (Volunteer Board Member, three-year term)

The CWC P.G. CO. is seeking to appoint a volunteer External Director to its Board, preference will be given to someone with a financial accounting background. The primary purpose of the External Director is to bring objective scrutiny to Board discussions and to act as a fiduciary for the organization. As a volunteer Board member, the External Director is ineligible to receive compensation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Activities associated with being a member of the Board • Preparing for and attending Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and other meetings of the membership, including the annual Strategic Board Planning Retreat.
• Serving as a member of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee.
• Reviewing annual and semi-annual budgets, business plans, business plan amendments, mid-year reports, audits, and significant organizational expenditures.
• Participating in discussions and decisions on matters of strategy, policy, finance, programs, personnel, and advocacy.

Certification or Education Required
QUALIFICATIONS
The External Director will be passionate about not-for-profit work, able to fully commit to Board responsibilities and policies and be willing to contribute constructively and respectfully in Board and subcommittee meetings. As a member of the Board, the External Director must also possess sophisticated and thoughtful communication skills and be eager to build trusting relationships with fellow Board members and senior staff.

Competencies
• Knowledge of issues related to not-for-profit financial and legal governance.
• Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance (i.e., policy, finance, programs, personnel or advocacy) and an understanding of the distinction between the Board, the Executive Director and staff.
• CPA accounting designation would be considered an asset.

Volunteer Accountant for Catholic Family Services

Description of Charity/Foundation:
A partnership of Catholic Family Service, Calgary Board of Education, and Alberta Health Services, Louise Dean Centre breaks down barriers to education for youth who are expecting a child or parenting. At one central location, young parents can access the academic, emotional, financial, and early childhood supports they need to thrive.

Catholic Family Service exists to build strong families in Calgary. We serve children, adults and families from all faith traditions, cultures, and backgrounds. Our programs and services, such as Louise Dean Centre, respond to the challenges that threaten families and leave them vulnerable. We focus on enhancing the mental health and well-being of our clients, empowering parents, nurturing children’s healthy development and enabling success in school.

Description of Role:
Volunteers will support Louise Dean Centre students and clients to complete their current/past tax returns through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Completing an income tax return is required to receive government benefits and is, therefore, critical for many young families. A computer and e-file system will be provided and volunteers will walk clients through the process of submitting their taxes, helping to build financial literacy.

Volunteers are asked to attend once or twice a month for 3 hours during a week day. The timing is flexible based on the needs of students and availability of the volunteer. Volunteering takes place at Louise Dean Centre, 120 – 23 Street NW.

Certification/Education Required:
Background in tax accounting preferred.

Volunteer Treasurer for Calgary Volunteer Fair Society

Description of Charity/Foundation:
The Calgary Volunteer Fair Society is a small non-profit society created in Spring 2018, and our main mission is to organise and host a trade-show style Fair each year, where people who are looking for volunteer opportunities can meet with organisations looking for volunteers.
Our inaugural Fair was Oct 2, 2018, and we had 62 organisations and over 300 attendees participate (despite it being the snowiest October day in Calgary since the late 1800s). Our second annual Fair was Oct 8, 2019, and it snowed again! Despite the weather, we doubled our attendance numbers, and are excited to keep growing.

We are a small, active board, and operate on a tight budget. We are looking for a few people to fill roles on our Board.

Description of Role:
Treasurer’s main responsibilities would be those that are part of the standard Alberta Society Act suggested bylaws, and, if someone has some experience with grant applications and funding, that would be very welcome as well. We meet about 6 – 10 times a year, more frequently as we get closer to our event.

7. Provides leadership,dedication and contribution towards financial health of the charity’s fundraising goals established.
8. Minimum average of 10 hours of volunteerism per month, remote work is the majority of the work.

The Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network (CFAN) is a charity that aims to reduce the incidence of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and ensure people who are affected by FASD are able to live a positive and fulfilling life. Through community engagement, training, advocacy and funding stewardship, CFAN is advancing how people understand and respond to FASD in Calgary and surrounding areas. CFAN works with members, community stakeholders and partner agencies to cultivate a deeper understanding of FASD, its causes, symptoms and wider impacts. Through our work, we support over 1,000 individuals with FASD and their caregivers each year.

Description of Role:
CFAN is seeking a community leader with expertise in finance to join the Board of Directors as successor to the current Treasurer. Transition duties include:

Volunteer Fundraising Chair on Board of Directors for Momo Multi Ability Movement Arts Society of Calgary

Description of Charity/Foundation:
Since 2003 Momo Movement has been designing inclusive, integrated, accessible and equitable dance, movement, and theatre opportunities for disabled people. In our classrooms and studios, Momo works with individual participants and performers to find their own movements and tell their own stories.

We offer weekly community classes in creative movement and other disciplines, like hip hop and line dancing at locations throughout Calgary.

Momo Movement’s performance ensemble has created and performed over 15 movement and theatrical productions. Our ensemble of mixed ability artists meets throughout the year to explore themes that are meaningful to them and create performance pieces of their own design. Momo’s ensemble is challenging who gets to make art, who gets to perform it and what it looks like.

Description of Role:
Momo Movement seeks an ambitious fund developer to fill the role of fundraising chair on the
board of directors. This innovative support seeker will be responsible for helping secure a
sustainable future for Momo Movement by establishing a fundraising revenue stream – new for
the company.

The fundraising chair is responsible for building and leading a fundraising committee of 3 to 7
volunteers and helping to develop a fund development strategy.

The Fundraising Chair is required to attend a monthly board meeting and a monthly committee
meeting between September and June, and we ask for a two year commitment to the role.
