The European Cultural Society of Calgary (ECSC) celebrates the growing multicultural diversity of Calgary and area. Our main program is the annual Calgary European Film Festival, Alberta’s premier film festival dedicated to promoting films and related arts from all over Europe. Chartered as a foundation in 1962 by the Alberta government, Silvera for Seniors is the second largest provider of seniors’ affordable housing in Alberta providing safe, affordable housing and services for lower-income seniors through a range of independent and supportive living options in Calgary. Silvera currently provides accommodation to more than 1,500 older Calgarians. It owns and/or operates 17 Independent Living Communities and 9 Supportive Living Communities wherein we provide seniors with dining services, housekeeping, recreation, and 24-hour non-medical monitoring.

Description of Role:
Silvera for Seniors is currently seeking motivated and visionary leaders to join our Finance and Risk Management Board Committee. As our seniors’ population increases and lives even longer, our work is becoming even more important and challenging. As we continue to grow, Silvera is now looking to complement its Board of Directors’ Finance and Risk Management Committee. We are seeking individuals with experience in one or combination of the following areas:

We are proud to offer children rapid access to specialized services through our network partners and community resources including providers of health care, special education, family and parent support groups, financial solutions, family/ children recreational activities, or parent education workshops. Our Clinical Coordinator provides professional, prompt and personalized guidance to parents of a child who has special needs by recommending and connecting them to appropriate community resources, while their child waits for government funded specialized services. Consult the Appendix for a “true story” depicting one example of an outcome thanks to our services, and “the problem to solve” for a few statistical findings. BUDS IN BLOOM is a bit like a condensed version of having one-stop answers and a captain to help each family navigate special service systems as they embark on their initial search for help. BUDS IN BLOOM is new to Alberta! Founded in Montreal in 2011, BUDS IN BLOOM, non-profit children organization, has a brand in Quebec, with over 300 families helped to date. Therefore, our top priority is to achieve Charity status to expand our ability to help. Created in 1989 to provide a way for young people to confidentially report abuse,  a unique telephone counselling service was launched providing free, accessible support to any young person reaching out, anywhere in the country.
Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only national 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone counselling, web counselling and referral service for children and youth.

Description of Role:
The responsibility of the Registration Lead is to oversee the registration area and ultimately be the “expert” on registration.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Identify number of volunteers needed for your area
  • Assist in recruitment of registration volunteers {along with volunteer lead}
  • Assist in training the registration volunteers {will receive help from KHP staff}
  • Work closely with Route & Logistics Lead and chair(s) in identifying area set-up on site map and other logistics.
  • Manage the registration area on event day
  • Assist KHP staff with Brinks pick up at the end of the event
  • Oversee the set-up/tear down of area on day of event

Call For Community Ambassadors in Edmonton- Join the Team!

The Community Ambassadors aim to help non-profit organizations, ranging from small to large and complex, by helping them connect with the skills-based volunteers they need.  These sectors include poverty reduction, health, and support for children, addictions recovery, the arts, animals, and the environment.

Although rich in its diversity, the area we serve includes some of the most economically challenged neighborhoods in Calgary. Many of our clients confront the realities of poverty on a daily basis, from being unable to make their rent payment, to something as basic as struggling to put food on the table for their families. Sunrise works with individuals and families to provide assistance with basic needs, referrals, and facilitate appointments for more in-depth problem-solving and systems navigation. We also provide community members the opportunity to participate in a number of different financial empowerment opportunities including: Sunrise Savings, Tax Clinics, Financial Literacy and Financial Coaching.

Description of Role:
We are currently looking for a volunteer Treasurer to serve on our Board of Directors, a responsibility that would take between 4-6 hours per month, for a minimum two-year commitment. Responsibilities would include attending and participating in monthly Board meetings, developing the annual operating budget in consultation with the Executive Director, reviewing and presenting quarterly financial statements to the Board, assisting with the annual audit of financial statements along with the Executive Director and the external audit firm, and acting as a signing authority for the organization.
