Volunteer Treasurer with Community LAMDA
Description of Charity/Foundation:
Community LAMDA is a registered charity (since 1987) that provides staff-supported, affordable, apartment-style homes as a foundation for stability and wellness for adults living in Calgary who experience mental illness (particularly schizophrenia).
The LAMDA Board oversees operation of two apartment buildings (62 occupants total), owned by Calgary Housing Company, and two full-time support workers who provide resources and ensure housing is well organized and safe for tenants.
One of the reasons for LAMDA’s exceptional success (as evidenced by low hospital readmission rates and stable tenancy) is that we provide permanent homes (vs a temporary residential treatment facility).
Description of Role:
Treasurer on the Board of Directors. This position requires knowledge of or interest in financial/accounting matters; orientation and mentoring will be provided.
Responsibilities include:
– Attendance at five meetings and two social events per year; communicate with other Board members between meetings, as required.
– Prepare budgets and other regulatory/financial reporting requirements
– Manage banking, tax returns, payroll and other expenditures on an ongoing basis
