Description of Role:
The Edmonton Heritage Council (www.edmontonheritage.ca) is seeking candidates to join its Board of Directors in 2022, to serve for an initial three-year term and up to a maximum of two three-year terms.
The Nominations Committee will review expressions of interest received starting January 15th, 2022, with a final deadline of March 15th, 2022, to submit. Director appointments may be made starting mid-February 2022 and through to EHC’s Annual General Meeting, May 25th, 2022.
EHC’s Strategic Priorities:
– Creating a stronger sense of belonging and connectedness for Edmontonians through heritage;
– Creating more opportunities for heritage participation and engagement in Edmonton’s neighbourhoods and communities;

Description of role:

Description of Role:
Calgary Pro Musica is seeking a volunteer for the role Treasurer and member of the Executive of the Board of Directors. The Treasurer is elected by the Board. Directors are elected by the Membership for a three-year term, and may be renewed. The Treasurer reports to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, but works closer with the Artistic Director and Administrator. The Treasure is expected to attend all meetings of the Society, the Board and the Executive Committee and is responsible for all matters dealing with the financial condition of the Society. Treasurer for Ballet Edmonton

We create and present three mainstage contemporary balletic works each season as well as tour nationally. Our season runs from September to May each year, and we employ nine full-time dancers. These donors and volunteers are the backbone of our organization and truly make our work possible.

The Christmas Cheer program was the first program founded by Seniors Secret Service. This program was built to give back to isolated seniors in our community by donating personalized gifts to individual seniors from their own personal Secret Santa.
The Birthday Cheer program recognizes isolated seniors on their special day. Seniors receive a handmade birthday card as well as a gift bag filled with toiletry items.
The Emergency Care Program supports seniors, who have arrived in hospitals or long-term care facilities with nothing but the clothes on their backs, by providing them with the basic essentials of life – socks, undergarments, pants and tops.
Description of Role:

Founded in 1981 by Canadian Michel Marc Gervais, Pro Coro Canada has performed at the Toronto International Choral Festival (1994 and 2002), the 1988 Olympic Arts Festival, and Canadian Voices (2003 landmark series of concerts celebrating 50 years of professional choral singing in Canada and R. Murray Schafer’s 70th year). The choir has commissioned over 50 new works in the last 10 years, the majority by emerging Canadian composers.
The twenty-four voices of Pro Coro Canada have been shaped by some of the finest choral conductors in the world, including Gervais, Anders Eby (Sweden), Søren Hansen (Denmark), Agnes Grossmann (Austria), and Richard Sparks (USA). In early 2012 Michael Zaugg was announced as Pro Coro’s new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.
Under the direction of Swiss-born Michael Zaugg, the choir is widely recognized as one of this country’s finest. The choir is particularly proud of its composer-in-residence program; its appointment as Faculty in the Choral Art program at the Banff Centre; and critically acclaimed tours of four provinces. Pro Coro Canada believes strongly in community partnerships and over the past few years has collaborated with many community choirs as well as mentoring young choral artists through their Emerging Artist Program. Pro Coro Canada produced the second Edmonton International Choral Festival in 2019.

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) Committee first formed in 1979 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to assist with the settlement of Indochinese refugees fleeing the aftermath of the Vietnam War. A year later, C.A.R.E. became a registered non-profit society. In 1982 it received status as a charitable organization. For over 40 years, C.A.R.E. has provided support to many newcomers in Central Alberta to find their way, feel at home and contribute to their new life as valued members of welcoming communities.
C.A.R.E. has a highly dedicated staff, with a wide variety of qualifications and experience. Many have immigrated to Canada and understand the challenges of trying to settle in a new country. This makes helping other newcomers more than just a job! On a daily basis, activities are managed by an Executive Director supported by a management team. Staff implement the Board’s policies and chosen strategies, supervise programs, services and the financial affairs of the society, and seek partnerships with other immigrant serving agencies. C.A.R.E. provides settlement support to newcomers in Central Alberta, in close partnership with the Immigration and Settlement Service of Catholic Social Services.
C.A.R.E. is governed by a volunteer Board, whose responsibilities include long term planning, oversight of the agency’s management and approval of annual budgets.

Finance Committee Volunteer wth the Edmonton Youth Justice Committee Society

The Edmonton Youth Justice Committee Society works with youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who have been charged with a criminal offence. We are part of the extra judicial sanctions program provided through the province. We utilize a restorative justice circle process involving the youth, their primary supports, such as families or guardians and the victims or harmed persons should they choose to attend a circle. In this process youth learn to accept responsibility for their actions and through discussion arrive at sanctions ( assignments or actions) that the youth must complete to conclude their case. If they are successful, then their charges will be dropped or withdrawn.

The Finance Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Directors and is chaired by the Board Treasurer The committee is responsible for reviewing financial matters, statements, etc and reports this to the Board. Committee members are expected to attend committee meetings regularly. Committee members will be required to complete a police information check and a child intervention check.
Certification or Education Required:
CPA designation is an asset. The volunteer should have the following skills:
-ability to understand and clearly explain financial concerns
-experience in creating budgets
general knowledge of financial operations for non profit organizations

Multicultural Family Resource Society (MFRS) was built by and for immigrant and refugee families who dared to dream of an inclusive, equitable, and intercultural Edmonton. We work as a collaborative, intercultural community to address the poverty and exclusion many newcomers face. As a community we lead in parent and youth programming that nurtures a culture of belonging and wellbeing. Description of Role:
The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring the mission and objectives of MFRS are achieved. It oversees the management of the Society’s affairs. Regular meetings of the Board shall be held a minimum of four times a year. Committee meeting schedules are determined by its members. The Board shall hold office and committee memberships for a term of two years with the opportunity for renewal. Board and Committee members are supported with opportunities for relevant training.
Specifically, over the next two years, the MFRS board is working towards becoming more strategic to support better community impacts. We want to: support a culture of learning and innovating, increase knowledge translation of the work we are doing, and create developmental evaluation to help us measure our impact. Board of Directors
The Board of Directors shall:
Assure the vision and objectives of MFRS are realized and abide by the Bylaws
Develop policies and procedures for the governance, management, and operation of the Society
Serve on at least one standing committee: governance, internal or external
Facilitate the development of a strategic plan
Review and adopt the annual budget
Actively participate in fundraising activities such as the Casino
Recommend annually to the Society’s members the appointment of an Accountant/Auditor
Oversee the hiring and supervision of the Executive Director(s)
Attend all Board meetings, but if unable to do so will advise the Chair in advance of the meeting
Make serious commitment to participate actively in committee work
Stay informed about Board/committee matters, prepare well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports
Stay informed on MFRS’s financial and legal obligations on a regular basis
Be respectful of confidential matters in accordance with Code of Conduct
Participate in annual evaluation of Board and Committee effectiveness
Support Board’s final decisions
Support MFRS by making an annual contribution of personal significance
Time Commitment:
Bimonthly Board meeting for 2 hours (5 meetings with July and August off)
Standing committee work 4 to 5 hours a month
Strategic Planning for 4 to 8 hours a year
Annual Program Visit for 2 to 4 hours a year
Annual Multicultural Event for 4 to 5 hours in October
Board Professional Development 3 to 4 hours a year
Remuneration and Liability
Directors of the board do not receive any payment for their time, except for reimbursement for expenses related to their duties (i.e. parking, payment for meals etc.).
Through insurance (Directors and Officers Insurance Policy), MFRS promises to cover potential losses from any kind of civil, criminal or administrative legal action against the Board, as long as the board directors acted in the best interests of MFRS. Board directors cannot be held liable for any loss unless they engaged in acts of fraud, dishonesty or bad faith.

What is required from you?
As a member of the board you are responsible for the effective governance& operations of the organization. You need to be prepared for each meeting by reading the materials and by participating in the conversations and decisions.Canadian Club of Calgary Board Members are responsible for the financial management strategic direction and vision of the organization. The Treasurer monitors the ongoing financial viability and stability of the Organization and reports to the board on a regular basis.
The treasurer will oversee financial matters in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing documents and legal requirements, and report to the board of directors at regular intervals regarding the financial health of the organization.
