Volunteer Mentors and Connectors for Internationally Educated Accountants

Description of Charity/Foundation:
Established in 2008, the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC), is an business-led, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring immigrants are welcomed and participate in the economy to their full potential.
The ERIEC offers the Edmonton the corporate and business sector a strategic approach to addressing talent attraction and talent retention issues that are affecting their bottom line.

Description of Role:
Mentors and Connectors help prepare mentees (the internationally educated accountants) to be more effective in their job search and to improve their job readiness by introducing them to professional networks and providing advice related to their chosen professions. A Mentor/Connector does not find the mentee a job.

Certification/Education Required:
A Mentor will:
• be established in his/her profession
• be familiar with the Canadian workplace
• have some insights about the regional labor market for his or her profession
• be available 6 hours/month for 4 months (about 1.5 hrs/week)

A Connector will:
• be established in his/her profession
• be connected to professional and/or business networks
• be available for a 30-minute informational interview

Applicable Interests:
Mentors/Connectors want to contribute to the success of global talent in his/her profession. This relationship is usually the first link in a newcomer’s professional network that opens doors to career opportunities for them.
