Treasurer for Friends of Reader Rock Garden Society (FoRRGS)

Description of Charity/Foundation:

Friends of Reader Rock Garden Society (FoRRGS) is inviting applications for the following Board positions – Vice President & Treasurer. FoRRGS is a non-profit, volunteer advisory group that works in conjunction with the City of Calgary to uphold the integrity and beauty of this Legacy Park/Garden and National Historic Site. FoRRGS is dedicated to the preservation, interpretation and stewardship of the horticultural traditions and spirit associated with Reader’s garden. Maintaining the educational vision and public enjoyment of the garden are our primary goals.

Description of Role:

Key objectives are as follows:
• To ensure that these gardens are well maintained and serve as an experimental garden for plants in general and alpine plants in particular.
• To maintain the educational vision and public enjoyment of the gardens.
• To liaise with other organizations within the Calgary community and to encourage the use of the William Reader House in conjunction with the gardens for a variety of complementary uses.
• To maintain contact with the management of other historical gardens across Canada and the United States for our mutual benefit.
• To maintain affiliations with other local horticultural/historical societies.
• Orientation & training will be provided to ensure the Board of Directors are comfortable & knowledgeable within their role. Previous board experience is certainly an asset but not required. Being passionate about gardens and/or national historic sites is a benefit.

Certification or Education Required:

Experienced with Treasurer duties – book-keeping, accounts payable, annual budget. Interested in Gardening, City of Calgary history, national historic sites are an asset.
